L'Association pour la langue écrite et la littéracie (http://writtenlanguage.ruhosting.nl/) tiendra son prochain atelier international les 30 septembre et 1er octobre 2010. Cette année, il est organisé par le laboratoire Langues-Musiques-Sociétés. Cet atelier est le septième d’une série de travaux internationaux organisés autour de la question des systèmes scripturaux. Les ateliers précédents ont porté sur « Ce que modifie l’orthographe » (What Spelling Changes, 1997) « Ecrire une langue » (Writing Language, 2000), « De la lettre au son » (From Letter to Sound, 2002), « Associations de phonèmes et de graphèmes » (Mapping graphemes onto phonemes, 2004), « Les contraintes dans les changements orthographiques » (Constraints on Spelling Changes, 2006), et sur le thème « Typologie des systèmes scripturaux » (Typology of Writing Systems, 2008). Ils se sont déroulés à Nimègue (Hollande), Cologne (Allemagne), Anvers (Belgique) et Brunswick (Allemagne). Ce septième atelier se déroulera à Paris (France).
Ces ateliers sur les systèmes scripturaux ouvrent un espace d’échange entre des chercheurs traitant venant d’horizons scientifiques différents linguistique théorique, psycholinguistique, traitement automatique des langues, didactique des langues et sciences de l’éducation, etc. venant de pays différents et travaillant sur une grande variété de systèmes linguistiques.
L’objectif de ce septième atelier est de traiter des relations entretenues entre les unités de langue et les unités d’écriture. Les contributions se focaliseront sur les questions suivantes :
- Quelles sont les relations entre les unités de langue et les unités d’écriture ? Quels niveaux sont concernés et quelles relations sont conservées ?- Quelle(s) modélisation(s) de la langue et de l’écriture rendent compte des relations qui ont été observées ?- Comment les scripteurs mettent-ils en relation les unités de langue et les unités d’écriture ?- Comment les lecteurs mettent-ils en relation les unités de langue et les unités d’écriture ?- Est-ce que la connaissance des relations entre langue et écriture dans une langue influence les représentations dans une autre langue ?- Comment les méthodologies d’enseignement de la lecture et de l’écriture influencent-elles les représentations des apprentis scripteurs-lecteurs ?- Quel est le rôle de l’écrit dans l’enseignement des langues premières et étrangères ?

DIRECTIVES DE PRESENTATION : Les auteurs devront soumettre un résumé de 300 mots maximum (Police Times New Roman 12, interligne 1,5). Les intervenants auront 30 minutes consacrées à leur présentation et 15 minutes consacrées aux questions et aux discussions. Les résumés doivent être envoyés en format texte (rtf, pdf, doc) par courrier électronique.

LANGUES DE L’ATELIER : français et anglais. Les conférenciers intervenant en français préparent un document écrit en anglais (diapositives powerpoint ou exemplier). PARTICIPATION: Les chercheurs qui souhaitent assister au colloque sans faire de communication sont les bienvenus. Ceux-ci sont invités à s’inscrire par le biais de l’adresse indiquée ci-dessus. The Association for Written Language and Literacy (cf. http://writtenlanguage.ruhosting.nl/) will hold its next workshop on September 30th and October 1st 2010. This year, it is organized by the laboratory Language-Music-Society. This workshop is the seventh in a series of international meetings devoted to the issue of writing systems. Earlier themes included ‘What Spelling Changes’ (1997), ‘Writing Language’ (2000), ‘From Letter to Sound’ (2002), ‘Mapping graphemes onto phonemes’ (2004), ‘Constraints on Spelling Changes’ (2006) and ‘Typology of Writing Systems’ (2008). Previous meetings were held in Nijmegen (The Netherlands), Cologne (Germany), Antwerp (Belgium) and Braunschweig (Germany). This seventh workshop will take place in Paris (France).
The writing systems workshops have offered a forum for discussion between researchers from a range of different countries and linguistic backgrounds, working in a variety of fields of writing research such as theoretical linguistics, psycholinguistics, computational linguistics and language education.
The focus of this 7th workshop is the relationship between units of language and units of writing. Especially welcome are contributions on the following questions:
- How are units of language and units of writing related? Which levels are involved and which kinds of relationships are maintained ?- Which models of language and writing accommodate the relationships that have been established?- How do writers map units of language onto units of writing?- How do readers map units of writing onto units of language?- Does knowledge of the relationship between speech and writing in one language influence one’s understanding of the same connection in a foreign language?- How do teaching techniques influence literacy development?- What is the role of writing in acquiring knowledge of one’s mother tongue ?- What is the role of writing in foreign language education ?

LANGUAGES OF THE MEETING: French and English. Presenters in French should prepare a written document (powerpoint or photocopies) in English, while presenters in English should provide a similar document in French. Contingent on available funding, translation costs may be covered by the organization.
PARTICIPATION: Researchers who would like to attend the workshop without presenting a paper are also welcome. Such participants should register at the address above. The workshop program and the abstracts of the accepted papers, along with travel and accommodation information will be circulated electronically well before the workshop.
